Dawg Daze

Chalkware like this bulldog is a wonderful part of our American life from mid-century and earlier given as prizes at carnival games of chance and along the midways of our local fairs. I remember well the excitement of getting to go the the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, Texas. The big Ferris wheel was always center stage and the "carnie" folks were ready, willing and able to entertain - for a price!...the sights, the sounds, the people, the memories that make us smile.

Economy is good

Business in the Antique and Collectibles market remains really good. This seems to be true with other dealers I have been visiting with. Over the past weekend I worked in Rockdale at the first Country Estate Auctions in the new Main Street Building and not just dealers were buying. Though not a huge auction we did have about 150 folks and that's a good number. Folks were buying all sorts of goodies.

I personally snagged a cool 1930s Flamingo Mirror. I paid $10.00 and can expect about $75.00 return. There was also some nice pieces of furniture of which I am now the owner of a part of those pieces. Let's see, I got a very nice buffet with a back mirror, a vanity with a lovely round mirror, a great antique chect of drawers, and a few other furniture items.

As for smalls I managed to buy back some planters that I sold about 6 years ago. They still had my mark on them. This time they will go to the shoppe. The couple of fun finds are a kingsley gold stamping machine from 1930 and it works - Spent a dollar. The other is a surf board...have no clue why but I will put it on the porch at the shop and see what happens.

Kerry scores!

Wow! Tables just don't come any cooler than this sweet English gem. It has an unusual single side drop leaf as seen in this photo and the front has 2 side-by-side drawers. The top is beautiful retro 1950s "I Love Lucy" red with the squiggles for added personality. I can see this table used in so many ways. It is the perfect size for extra kitchen work space. Imagine having this versitle piece in a craft room, your office as a desk, breakfast nook, sun room, bedroom or bath - It just works!

The table is owned by Kerry and Brad who are talented antiquers and collecters with an eye for the high-end glass and pottery, the diverse & divine, as well as the fun kitschy. Find this piece and more in Geronimo, Texas at Blue Hills Antique Mall, an antiquing destination.

Love Booming!

Booming is what we all want and bOoMiNg is what happened this weekend at Woopi Jane's Thangs in Blue Hills  -  The shabby chic furniture was flying out of the door and a beautiful English gate leg table was snatched up before we even got it in place. Maybe this activity is due in part to the influx of great folks to the area for the big San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo as well as dealers out shopping to fill out their inventory for "Antique Week" in Roundtop and Warrington. Whatever the cause is we are loving the results!

A journey began

Sold! Sold! Sold! Sold! Sold!
Was it really that long ago? Seems like only yesterday I was standing on a chair in my Grandmother's modern red and yellow kitchen "helping out". I have learned that a journey is not always forward and in fact can be as simple as a soft and sweet memory. Enjoy the pictures from Blue Hills Antique Mall and plan a trip to Geronimo and a walk, hand-in-hand,  with your own unique memories.
