Open Wide The Doorway

Thanksgiving

The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway
Thanksgiving comes again!

New Sew 'n Sew Corner

Hey y'all!

Woopi Jane's Thangs has expanded just a bit and changed things around to keep it fresh! Most recently we added an area that is becoming our Sew 'n Sew corner. This great little mid-century portable Singer Spartan is in perfect working condition and I love the green. The answer to that unasked question is "yes indeed, I do sew." Along with this little work horse I am stocking partial rolls and roll ends of upholstery fabrics and some are hard to find vintage, all from my own stash. You will also find trim, lace in yards, general fabric and more.

Stop in anytime - Now open Mon - Sat 10:00 - 5:00 and Sun 1:00 - 5:00

6832 Hwy 123

Dawg Daze

Chalkware like this bulldog is a wonderful part of our American life from mid-century and earlier given as prizes at carnival games of chance and along the midways of our local fairs. I remember well the excitement of getting to go the the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, Texas. The big Ferris wheel was always center stage and the "carnie" folks were ready, willing and able to entertain - for a price!...the sights, the sounds, the people, the memories that make us smile.

This adorable highchair is more than meets the eye ~ It is a 3-in-one combo highchair, potty chair and it folds over to create a play table and walker on rollers.

Hall Aladin's Lamp teapot is a classy piece paired with this chippy shabby kitchen chair.

Variety is the spice of life and this kitchen collectible still has many years of use left.

Sale ~ Sale ~ Sale!

It's time for some spring cleaning at Woopi Jane's Thangs. We need to make room for several items we recently aquired from a small but nice estate that we bought out last week. Select items will be reduced by 50% with most other items on sale as well. This will include the "stuff" out on the porch.

There are several things in the works up at Horse Feathers Studio which will be in Geronimo real soon. Included will be a sweet 1930s curios cabinet that has been custom painted and I am still working on the Hoozier cabinet along with a few other smaller projects. Remember that it is a one woman show so don't get impatient if it takes a bit longer than you might think. Quality takes time!

Options, Options, Options

This time of year there is so much going on and it is impossible to take it all in. Classes are ending for the session for almost everyone which means we can expect to see some younger folks in the shop. It is also a time that our winter texans begin to head north. The weather has been dry so dealers are out and about in droves taking advantage os various sales and favorite pickin' spots.

Just this past weekend I was able to aquire the bid for a small 2 bedroom estate. There are lots of collectible smalls and a few nice art pices and small collectibles and assorted furniture. It is one of the situation that requires a move into assisted living. Keep posted for those and remember the auctions soon. I will post pics as the boxed are unpacked. That's the fun part.

Kitchen Cabinet Project

Here she is in all of her painted glory! This piece is going to take a few hours to get the paint off and then I can determine what the next step will be. The glass, hardware, sifter, and bones all look good.  I do know she will look great in the shop and will find a new forever home. This is my last larger project which means I HAVE to hit a few sales and get restocked.
Will post the upates as we go along.

Sweet Whispers & Butterfly Kisses

Just have to share this sweet quite moment that I encountered this morning. The little mimosa tree has flowered even in the face of the worse drough in 157 years. The pretty pink blooms were being visited by 2 butterflies that are migrating to Mexico. We have not seen as many and maybe this is a new beginning. It does not take much to find a delight nearby waiting to be discovered. It is even more rewarding to share.

Roundtop & Warrenton Show

Shake your tail feathers and breath a sigh of relief that it's almost over. What? What do you mean you don't know about the BIG Days and Days and Days long Antique Show and Sale??? Oh my! Yes, right down the road from LaGrange and Smithville not too far from Giddings and yes, that's Texas. All reports we have heard are very good and the past 2 bi-annual shows have been off. One year it was Hurricane Rita and those kind of things that can put a damper on sales. This past 2 weeks could not have been better in the weather department. While everyone was off treking through the miles and miles of shops and having much fun those of us manning the home front (shops) saw a bit of a slump. It's a usual thing and after a little break we are back at it. All of those folks who sold out at the shows will now need to come visit us!

ML & Brad Workin' at Blue Hills Antique Mall

Don't these 2 macho men look sweet & cozy on the Queen Vic Sofa? I thought they showed up to work... silly me! All is forgiven because we went to the Grain Bin Cafe & they paid

Below is one of Woopi Jane's custom painted pieces - It is now located across the street from Blue Hills at Diamond D Boutique - They have 2 other pieces in their shop bought from Woopi Jane's Thangs. Great promotion for me - Thanks guys!

We have been really busy with a steady flow of folks stopping in. The Mall is several buildings connected in really cool ways. The original shop area is now the back Blue Hills. Expansion this month will add another 8 booths. WooHoo! The more the merrier.

Economy is good

Business in the Antique and Collectibles market remains really good. This seems to be true with other dealers I have been visiting with. Over the past weekend I worked in Rockdale at the first Country Estate Auctions in the new Main Street Building and not just dealers were buying. Though not a huge auction we did have about 150 folks and that's a good number. Folks were buying all sorts of goodies.

I personally snagged a cool 1930s Flamingo Mirror. I paid $10.00 and can expect about $75.00 return. There was also some nice pieces of furniture of which I am now the owner of a part of those pieces. Let's see, I got a very nice buffet with a back mirror, a vanity with a lovely round mirror, a great antique chect of drawers, and a few other furniture items.

As for smalls I managed to buy back some planters that I sold about 6 years ago. They still had my mark on them. This time they will go to the shoppe. The couple of fun finds are a kingsley gold stamping machine from 1930 and it works - Spent a dollar. The other is a surf board...have no clue why but I will put it on the porch at the shop and see what happens.

Meet Tim Orcutt

Meet Auctioneer Tim Orcutt. It is going to be really good
for all of us gypsy piddlers to have a new option with a venue for buying as well as selling. the Building is now up and there's still a way to go. Drive by...It's on Interstate 10 going west out of Seguin and on the right side. If you see Tim out there be sure to give a shout.

Way to go Tim!!!!!

Blue Hills Antiques Dealers will be watching their folders for announcments.

Tim Orcutt - Auction Building

I was talking to Tim recently at Blue Hills Antique Mall (where we are vendor neighbors) and learned that the new auction house building is up! Congrats to Tim. I, for one am very excited about a new auction opening up in our area. Not only is this a great and super fun way to pick up on inventory for resale, buy for your home and office, it is another venue for sales for dealers and individules. It feels really good to turn a few pieces that have not been working for you or maybe they were duplicates and find a few items that do work.

You know it's a tough world when we HAVE to go shop or when there's just too much and you have to "flip" a few pieces...What a life we get to enjoy, shopping, visiting, picking, meeting new folks, all the while gathering more "Stuff". There are more than just a few of us looking forward to Tim's sales. I think this will be a great opportunity for both buying and selling.

Drive by when you are out that way. From Seguin  take I10 west towards San Antonio. The new digs are just a few miles out just passed the city limits. Check back for updates.

Kerry scores!

Wow! Tables just don't come any cooler than this sweet English gem. It has an unusual single side drop leaf as seen in this photo and the front has 2 side-by-side drawers. The top is beautiful retro 1950s "I Love Lucy" red with the squiggles for added personality. I can see this table used in so many ways. It is the perfect size for extra kitchen work space. Imagine having this versitle piece in a craft room, your office as a desk, breakfast nook, sun room, bedroom or bath - It just works!

The table is owned by Kerry and Brad who are talented antiquers and collecters with an eye for the high-end glass and pottery, the diverse & divine, as well as the fun kitschy. Find this piece and more in Geronimo, Texas at Blue Hills Antique Mall, an antiquing destination.

Love Booming!

Booming is what we all want and bOoMiNg is what happened this weekend at Woopi Jane's Thangs in Blue Hills  -  The shabby chic furniture was flying out of the door and a beautiful English gate leg table was snatched up before we even got it in place. Maybe this activity is due in part to the influx of great folks to the area for the big San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo as well as dealers out shopping to fill out their inventory for "Antique Week" in Roundtop and Warrington. Whatever the cause is we are loving the results!

E. Gomme Mid-Century Dressing Table

This sweet little vanity style dresser is English and very much the European first cousin to our American Haywood-Wakefield furnishings that have never gone out of style. Just the opposite is true and the quality and style of this is HOT! Making it even more desirable is the fact that IT IS English and the line was not marketed in the states...a rare little jewel indeed belonging to friends Kerry and Brad.

A journey began

Sold! Sold! Sold! Sold! Sold!
Was it really that long ago? Seems like only yesterday I was standing on a chair in my Grandmother's modern red and yellow kitchen "helping out". I have learned that a journey is not always forward and in fact can be as simple as a soft and sweet memory. Enjoy the pictures from Blue Hills Antique Mall and plan a trip to Geronimo and a walk, hand-in-hand,  with your own unique memories.
